Arnolds Park, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Arnolds Park / Okoboji Fire Chief says the fire last Wednesday that destroyed one home and damaged two others was likely caused by a nearby brush and debris fire. Chief Chris Yungbluth tells KICD News the State Fire Marshal was not called in to assist since the cause appeared obvious.

The caller who reported the fire said it sounded as though there was an explosion at 57 Allen Avenue. Yungbluth says the noise was likely consumer fireworks being stored in one of the structures.

Milford fire assisted at the scene. It took around 90 minutes to get the fire – which had spread to both the homes to the North and to the South – under control, with crews remaining on scene for several more hours to make sure the flames did not rekindle.
