SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Country artist Eli Alger with the Faster Horses will host a ribbon cutting for the second Habitat for Humanity home in Spencer this Friday.

On November 21 at 11:00 a.m., the ribbon cutting will celebrate a major milestone, completing a project that began after floods displaced families in the community. The homes were funded through the Faster Horses Flood Relief Benefit Concert earlier in June, which raised about $250,000 in cash, materials, and sponsorships.

Alger says the goal was simple: help young families who lost everything stay in Spencer.

The ribbon cutting will take place at the build site, 617 East 10th Street in Spencer.

Alger credited local businesses, sponsors, and volunteers for making the project possible. In addition to building two homes, the initiative helped refurbish more than 10 houses through a partnership with the long-term recovery program.

Looking ahead, Alger will return to the Spencer Community Theater on Friday, January 2 for a special performance.

Tickets are just $10, and seating is limited to 266 seats, so fans are encouraged to get tickets early for this rare, intimate performance.
