SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Spencer’s old middle school gym has been transformed into the Tiger Sports Academy.

The new indoor training facility was designed to give local baseball and softball players year-round opportunities to develop new skills. KICD Sports Director Steven Cutler spoke with Mike Koenecke (Keh-Neh-Kee), executive director of the program.

The 4,500 square-foot space now features batting cages, pitching mounds, turf, and safety systems — all built to withstand heavy training.
Koenecke notes the project came together quickly, with construction starting in early November.

The nonprofit board raised funds through grants, pledges, and donations to cover costs. Price was estimated to be around $260,000 to $280,000.

Tiger Sports Academy will serve athletes from age five through high school, with some college players expected to train during breaks. Spencer’s Youth Softball Association already draws 600–650 participants annually.

For more information, visit Tiger Sports Academy on Facebook, email TigerSportsAcademyInc@gmail.com, or call 712-363-6333.
