Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Spencer City Council has set the timeline for filling the 4th ward council seat. Mayor Donovan Wunschel – who gave up the spot to become Mayor – hopes there’s a lot of interest.
And then the council hopes to have a new person on board by the end of the month.
Under state law, the city council could either hold a special election to fill the position or simply make an appointment, and opted for the quicker, cheaper solution. But 4th Ward residents can petition for a special election if they gather names equaling 10 percent of the voter turnout in the ward during the most recent general election.
