NORTHWEST IOWA, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Campgrounds in Emmet and Buena Vista Counties are getting ready to open for the summer recreation season.

Emmet County Conservation operates three campgrounds across the county: Wolden Park, Tuttle Lake, and Iowa Lake.

In an interview with KICD, Conservation Director Matt Reineke says staff are targeting a late-March opening date.

Reineke says in addition to seasonal setup work to ensure public safety, the Nature Center at Wolden Park is also set to receive some long-needed improvements this year.

The department is also finalizing summer programs for youth, including nature camps and a kids fishing clinic.

Meanwhile, the City of Storm Lake is also preparing for the summer season by opening campground and park shelter reservations on April 1 at 8 a.m., using a new online reservation system.

The system allows users to reserve campsites at Sunrise Pointe Campground, with options ranging from primitive tent camping to full-amenity RV sites. Park shelters are also available to reserve at Chataqua Park, Awaysis Park, Sunrise Park, and Frank Starr Park, along with the Great Lawn at Awaysis Park for larger events.

City officials say residents can register accounts now to get a head start before reservations officially open. Reservations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and require an online account.
