Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa Lakes Women’s Soccer team won the District Tournament in 2024. They would be eliminated one game short of punching their ticket to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

Last year’s coach left for a job out east, and stepping in this year is former Iowa Lakes Men’s Assistant Coach Mukwah Ogitchida. Ogitchida had to hit the recruiting trail hard to pull a roster together after the exit of last year’s head coach.

The sophomores that have returned have stepped in to leadership roles, working to bring together a group of freshmen from all over the world in several different backgrounds. A trio of German athletes have really stepped up into these leadership roles for the Lakers.

Ogitchida wants this year’s Lakers to put a lot of pressure on opponent’s back lines.

It was a close race at the top of the ICCAC last year for Division II, with Iowa Central, Hawkeye, and Iowa Lakes all vying for a league title. Ogitchida says Hawkeye brings in a really strong group, and Iowa Central will still be very prominent.

The Regular season for the Lakers opens up with a Tournament in Indianapolis where they will see Heartland and Anne Arundel.

Northwest Iowa Now will bring you coverage of the Iowa Lakes Women’s Soccer team throughout the 2025 season.
