Pioneers Pick up Two Wins Against Former Siouxland Conference Foe

Sibley, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Sibley-Ocheyedan and Okoboji met for a girls and boys varsity double-header on Thursday night in Sibley.

Okoboji started quick in the girls’ game, leading 20-5 after the 1st quarter, and extended that lead to 19 at the half. It was a low scoring 3rd quarter as Okoboji only managed 8 to the Generals 5 points. The two teams split the 4th at 7 apiece and Okoboji came away with the 55-22 route.

Riley Meyer paced the Pioneers with 26 points on the evening as they improve to 1-2 on the year. Lucy Heitritter led Sibley-Ocheyedan with 9 points in the loss as the Generals fall to 0-2 on the year.

In the Boys game, Sibley-Ocheyedan led 19-15 after a high scoring 1st quarter, but Okoboji fired back by outscoring the Generals 18-12 in another high scoring 8 minutes. That lead grew to 19 after the 3rd quarter for Okoboji and they ultimately cruised to a 71-53 win.

Okoboji was led by Miles Wasson’s 17 points. Avery Simington, Elijah Graves, and Asa Jacobsen were also in double figures. Sibley-Ocheyedan got 16 points from Alex Kruger in the loss.
