The project involves a collaboration between CMBA Architects, Kids Express Daycare, and the Prairie View Home in Sanborn. Currently, Kids Express is the only licensed provider in the area and is facing a massive 18-month waiting list.

To fix this, the daycare is moving into a vacant memory care unit at the Prairie View nursing home. Once the move is complete, the center will be renamed the Sunrise Express Daycare Center.

The intergenerational model will allow children and residents at Prairie View to interact daily, and by renovating an existing space rather than building from scratch, organizers say the project is cost-effective and sustainable.

Wendy Nelson is Prairie View Administrator, and says the idea is sure to improve the resident’s experience.
