Cherokee, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Cherokee Superintendent Tom Ryherd has announced his resignation to take the lead at Perry Community School District.

Ryherd, an Alta native who joined Cherokee in 2020, was officially appointed by the Perry School Board last week. Cherokee School Board President Jodi Thomas Ryherd first informed each board member individually.

Ryherd says he taught in the Perry School District right out of college, so he is happy to return to a familiar area.  Although for now Cherokee is still his focus.

Thomas and the board will begin the search now for a new superintendent, but praised Ryherd for his leadership.

Ryherd was the former Alta-Aurelia Community Schools Superintendent before heading to Cherokee.
