Sheldon, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — The Sheldon Fire Department was called to Hull Co-Op in Sheldon for another cooler fire last Friday evening around 7:30pm. This was a different cooler, than the last fire a week and a half ago.

Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt says the department was met on scene from an employee of the plant, advising there was a smoldering fire in the pellet cooler. Two firefighters and the employee entered the plant to investigate and found pellets smoldering in the cooler, as the fire suppression system kept the fire contained to the cooler.

A coordinated fire attack was set up with the help of plant employees, and assistance from the Sanborn and Hospers Fire Departments. Firefighters and plant employees monitored the cooler for a couple hours until the temperatures in the cooler dropped to a normal temperature.

No injuries were reported. Sheldon Community Ambulance, Sheldon Police and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office also assisted. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
