SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Even though Iowa’s statutory speed limit on paved county roads increased from 55 to 60 mph on July 1, several stretches of roadway in Clay County will remain posted at 55 mph until safety improvements can be completed.

County officials determined some roads do not meet the safety standards needed to accommodate the higher speeds and have established temporary 55 mph speed zones on nine roadway segments.

Those roadways include: M22 (100th Avenue) from Highway 18 to 350th Street; M36 (160th Avenue) from 420th Street to 440th Street; M38 (190th Avenue) from 350th Street to 400th Street; B19 (320th Street/East Beltway) from Highway 71 to 230th Avenue; M50 (240th Avenue) from County Bridge GB16-2 to Highway 18; M54 (290th Avenue) from south of Webb to the Buena Vista County line; N14 (310th Avenue) from the Dickinson County line to Highway 18; B17 (300th Street) from 270th Avenue to 300th Avenue; and B24 (350th Street) from 130th Avenue to 140th Avenue.
