Sheldon, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Sheldon Fire Chief Brad Hindt reports a couple of farm fires in recent days.
Saturday before noon they were called to the intersection of Lily Avenue and 340th Street about two miles South and three miles West of town. It appears corn stalks got stuck in a telehandler – kind of a large fork lift – and started on fire. The telehandler was destroyed and the fire spread to a manure pile. The manure was spread out so it could doused with water, but rekindled Monday afternoon and the crew had to make a return trip.

Monday morning the Sheldon Fire Department was called to the intersection of 320th Street and Lily – about two miles South – where two piles of corn stalk bales were on fire. An excavator broke the bales apart and a farmer disced up the remains. Cause of that fire was embers from a burn pit.
