Cherokee, Iowa — A Sioux city man is in custody in Cherokee County on a warrant dating back to 2013. Authorities arrested 50-year-old Dayton Sabasta this week on charges of second-degree burglary and possession of a firearm by a felon. In August 2012, it’s alleged Sabasta stole jewelry and guns from a home on “O” Avenue in Cherokee County.

Shortly after that burglary, Sabasta was arrested in Sioux City for holding a woman captive in an extortion scheme. He has been serving 13 years for that crime.

Now that sentence is finished, and he is back in Cherokee County to face the 2013 charges. His preliminary hearing is set for January 27th.
