Rock Rapids, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – A Wednesday morning press release from Central Lyon and the Siouxland Conference states as follows:

The Siouxland Conference, Lakes Conference, and Western Christian School met on Tuesday, November 26, and reached a tentative agreement to realign for the 2026-27 school year.  Superintendents from all schools plan to bring recommendations to their respective school boards in December.  Athletic directors from both conferences will meet in early December to continue discussions.

Spencer Superintendent Terry Hemann said it was a productive meeting.

Nothing is official yet, there is still a process before a new version of these leagues is set in stone.

Hemann detailed some concerns that some of the 16 schools involved would have about the agreement.

The Siouxland Conference is currently made up of 10 schools located in the Counties of Sioux, Lyon, Osceola, O’Brien, and Dickinson with BEDS enrollment ranging from 145 to 374. The Lakes Conference is 5 schools locaated in Cherokee, Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, and Emmet Counties with BEDS enrollment from 277 to 581.

Hemann believes this is a really good situation for the Lakes Conference schools compared to what the now 5 school League has been dealing with for the better part of the last five years.

Athletic directors from both conferences and Western Christian will meet in early December to continue discussions.

Northwest Iowa Now will provide updates as this agreement progresses.
