Spencer Boys Wrestling Splits Lakes Conference Dual

Estherville, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – It was a Lakes Conference triangular Thursday night in Estherville as the Spencer Boys Wrestling team took on Cherokee and Estherville Lincoln Central.

In the first dual of the evening, Cherokee had 6 open weight classes, giving Spencer 30 points while the Tigers were giving up 6 points on open classes.

Lincoln Benson and Carter Hautt each picked up some wins by fall for the Braves. Spencer’s Easton Beehler got a Tech Fall at 144, then both Jake Schipper at 215 and Tallen Lorenzen at 285 pinned their opponents for the Tigers.

In full weights, Cherokee had the edge 18-17, but Spencer came away with the dual win 47-24 due to the open weight classes from the Braves.

Estherville Lincoln Central picked up a 58-22 Dual win against Cherokee in the second event of the evening.

The Tigers would collide with Estherville Lincoln Central on the final dual of the evening. ELC received 12 points on 2 open weight classes for Spencer.

Estherville Lincoln Central got wins by fall from Gustavo Chitic-Aguilar, Owen Helget, Brody Olson, Braxton Johnson, and Warren Duitsman. Layton Yager came away with a Tech Fall at 175.

Peyton Sutherland, Easton Beehler, Max Merten, Jacob Schipper, and Tallen Lorenzen all got wins by fall as well. The big turning point in the match was when Bennett Duitsman had a late comeback at 165 for Estherville Lincoln Central against Spencer’s Noah Fullhart, working out of a possible pin situation to battle back and win by Decision.

ELC did have the final advantage in the full weight classes 33-30 and came away with a 44-36 win against the Tigers.
