Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The city of Spencer has offered the Finance Director’s job to the Deputy City Manager from Algona. Human Resources Director Jessica Wright says Barb Smith will split her time evenly between city hall and working from home in Humboldt.

City Manager Kevin Robinson says the previous two interim finance directors have worked remotely, and several other department heads have a hybrid schedule already.

The hiring was approved 5 to zero Monday night with two councilmembers absent. In addition to her current position with the city of Algona Smith has been the City Manager in Laurens and City Administrator in Forest City.
