Spirit Lake, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Twenty years ago – January of 2006 – Spirit Lake city councilman Clyde Ihrke was offered the job as the City’s Building and Zoning Director and resigned his elected spot to accept. He has retired. Now the job was offered to city councilman Keith Brockmeyer. Brockmeyer has accepted the job and resigned from the city council Tuesday.

Brockmeyer is a long-time Real Estate broker and has worked on planning, zoning, and street issues since taking office in 2020. He says he looks forward to being involved in the growth of Spirit Lake in a different position.

Under Iowa law the city council may either call a special election to fill out the remainder of the term or appoint a replacement. No decision has been made but City Administrator Gregg Owens says anyone interested in filling the position should contact any council member or Mayor Kevin Bice.
