Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — The two-year stalemate over the future of the Storm Lake Marina reached a breaking point last week as the Marina subcommittee officially disbanded. The move ends a long effort to find a compromise between public and county ideas for using the Storm Lake Marina.

The Department of Natural Resources has officially approved shifting the property to Buena Vista County management, and now County Conservation Director Greg Johnson is already working on the over $800,000 of immediate repairs before it can open to the public, and he has told the Board the plan is to turn t he former marina into a centralized headquarters and future nature center.

Until then, Johnson says the property is still open to the public.  The docks remain open for now, but the marina’s future as a private-run business is effectively over.
