STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) — An early morning traffic stop led to multiple drug-related charges for two Illinois men Thursday in Storm Lake.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, an officer conducted a traffic stop near the 600 block of Highway 110 by Frank Starr Park around 12:15 a.m. on June 11. Authorities say while speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana.

A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered approximately 80 grams of marijuana, about 110 grams of THC-infused gummies, five THC vaping devices, and various items of drug paraphernalia.

The occupants were identified as 51-year-old Jason Hoger of Sugar Grove, Illinois, and 32-year-old Juan Barrera Lopez of Lombard, Illinois.

Both men were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Buena Vista County Jail.

Hoger and Barrera Lopez were each charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; possession of marijuana and possession of a hemp inhalation device, both serious misdemeanors; and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a Class D felony.

Both individuals were held on a $7,300 bond.
