Estherville, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls and Boys Basketball teams hit the road on Tuesday night for a Lakes Conference matchup with Estherville Lincoln Central.

It was a slow start offensively in the first quarter of the Girls Game. The Tigers collected a lot of early foul trouble, but were able to string together a nice run toward the end and led 13-7 going into the 2nd.

Spencer’s defense dominated in the 2nd quarter, holding ELC to only 2 points. The Tigers led 28-9 at the half.

The 3rd quarter was pretty sloppy on both ends of the floor. Estherville Lincoln Central did their best to hang around and got a big lift from Ella Soper who hit a pair of 3s in the 3rd. Spencer went into the 4th quarter with a 40-21 lead.

The Tigers were able to cruise from there, outscoring ELC 20-10 down the stretch to pick up the dominant 60-31 win.

Dakota Lux, Sydnee Hopkins, Avery McEntee, and Calista Frankenstein all scored in double figures for Spencer as they improve to 7-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Lakes Conference.

The win marked Spencer’s first Lakes Conference victory since the 2022-23 season, and first win over Estherville Lincoln Central since February 9th, 2021.

ELC was led in scoring by Morgan Clabaugh’s 8. Estherville Lincoln Central is now 0-11 on the year and 0-2 in the Lakes Conference.

It took a while for the offenses to feel each other out in the boys’ contest. Estherville Lincoln Central had the edge 11-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Spencer started the 2nd quarter with a really nice run, leading by a couple of possessions at one point, but ELC tore back to retake the lead at the half 26-22.

Estherville Lincoln Central added to their lead in the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Tigers 19-12, and would hold Spencer at bay through the 4th to win 62-51.

ELC was led by Jackson Struve, who hit 6 3-pointers in the win on his way to 25 points. Kaden Fechter added 17 for Estherville Lincoln Central as they improve to 4-6 this season and 1-2 in the Lakes Conference.

Spencer falls to 2-8 this year and 1-2 in the League. The Tigers were led in scoring by Tate VonEhwegen who scored 16 in the loss.
