SHELDON, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A traffic stop in Sheldon led to the arrest of an Everly woman on operating while under the influence (OWI) charges.

Around 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, officers with the Sheldon Police Department stopped a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix on 11th Street near Second Avenue. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Pachenz Elizabeth Bruce, reportedly showed signs of impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes and difficulty maintaining her balance.

After failing field sobriety tests, Bruce told officers she had smoked marijuana four to five hours earlier. A drug recognition expert evaluated Bruce and determined she was still impaired by marijuana at the time of the stop. A preliminary urine test later returned positive results for both marijuana and amphetamine.

Bruce was taken into custody and charged with first-offense operating while under the influence.
