Two Boys Referred for Burglary After Storm Lake Home Invasion

STORM LAKE, IA (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Two Storm Lake boys are facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting a minor.
On Thursday, October 9, Storm Lake Police were called to a residence in the 700 Block of West 8th Street around 8:30 p.m. for a report of an assault. Once officers arrived, they spoke with a minor who claimed two juvenile males, ages 13 and 14, had attempted to enter their home through a window.
The victim reported trying to stop the suspects, who allegedly forced their way inside and pushed the victim. Once inside, police say the juveniles stole food and ransacked the residence before fleeing on foot.
Both suspects were later located and taken into custody. Each was issued juvenile referrals for second-degree burglary, a class C felony, along with simple assault and fifth-degree theft, both misdemeanors.
The juveniles were released to the custody of the Cherokee YES Center for placement.
