CLAY COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A two-vehicle accident in rural Spencer led to one injury Wednesday morning.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1st in the 2000 mile of 360th Street in front of Pete Howe Sanitation.
An investigation showed 71-year-old Beverly Wantland of Royal was driving a 2018 Nissan Rogue along 360th Street when she attempted to pass a slowing sanitation truck. At the same time, 50-year-old Chad Lyman of Peterson was driving a 2008 Freightliner and had signaled to make a left-hand turn.
Officials determined Wantland failed to see the truck’s turn signal, and the Freightliner struck the right rear of the Rogue.
Both drivers were uninjured, but a passenger in Wantland’s vehicle suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger declined medical treatment and was transported by personal vehicle. Damage to the Nissan Rogue was estimated at approximately $8,000, while damage to the Freightliner was estimated at around $1,000.
Wantland was cited for unsafe passing, a simple misdemeanor, and was released. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
