Milford, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — An open house informational event took place Thursday evening on whether or not to convert highway 71 through Milford four lanes or three. Mitchell Wall, a Traffic Transportation Engineer based in Des Moines, reports that US 71 through Milford experiences a daily traffic volume of approximately 13,000 vehicles, which is the maximum capacity for the four-lane highway.

Wall further explains why a three-way is the better solution.

Wall notes that the Federal Highway Administration lists that a 4-to-3-lane is a proven safety measure.

So what’s next for this project? The next step involves presenting it to the City Council. Wall provides further details on the upcoming process.
